The 2007 Holiday Card
“The Cabin on the River
Circa 1920s
Twenty-fourth in a series
Artist: Kathleen DeBlasio
Califon Frame Shop
Used by hunters and fishing clubs, cabins also drew families and individuals.Having many “comforts of home”, a fieldstone fireplace, an outhouse with reading matter, but no running water.
The “Bed and Breakfast” units in town, such as the Hoffman Boarding House, the infamous Califon Hotel (an important player part in Califon’s only murder) were popular; none held the attraction of the summer houses along the river.
This building is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places.
Got an hour or two and want to learn the history and the buildings of New Jersey's greatest community. Then take this self paced adventure. Most of the places on the map, available at the Station and Rambo's still exist. These national historic register buildings have been labeled by the Califon Historical Society. Learn some history, see some great architecture, get some exercise. A treat for your mind and body.

SO WHAT NOW?
Come visit us. Relish in our history (past and present), view our relics and artifacts, fish in our streams, patronize our commercial establishments. As Mrs. Geist said in the foreward of The Califon Story,
"True, Califon is not a large town... with a population of just a few more than seven hundred people. It is not a town of great renown, it can boast of no great wealth, it has produced no great names to appear in the annals of history -- and no historical events took place here. In spite of this, it has its own story to relate, and it is this story that is being unfolded here."
