We are governed by an elected town council. They are housed along with assorted other Administrators, committees and town officials in the Municipal Hall, formerly the old Schoolhouse. The Society helped with this restoration by supplying the bell tower. You may reach the boroughs officials at 908 832-7850.
Califon Educates It's Youth!
And does a darn good job of it!
Califon School is a comprehensive grade K-8 institution that keeps the student's well being first. The first school was built in 1890. By 1912, it became apparent that the 2 room schoolhouse was inadequate, so by 1918 the present school (pictured above while under construction)was built. Two additions have been added since. When we get more web space we will have more history of both school buildings, especially the recent renovation of the first one.

The above is a card we just "won" on Ebay! Written in 1906, it depicts The Cole Grist Mill. The writing on the edge says it was from Califon. This town has some of the most devoted post card collectors in the state. BUT NONE OF THEM HAVE SEEN THIS ONE BEFORE! Now it will be made available for the public to see an important Califon site that is no longer standing. Unfortunately, it was quite expensive. Fortunately because of support by the citizenry, we were able THIS TIME to save, thus share this prize.
